About Banks Mill Feeds
Built in Aiken. Trusted by Horse Owners Across the Southeast.
Banks Mill Feeds is an equine feed manufacturer located in Aiken, South Carolina, dedicated exclusively to producing high-quality horse feeds. Since 1996, our focus has been simple: consistent nutrition, thoughtfully formulated, and made for real horses in real programs.
We work with horse owners, trainers, and breeders who want confidence in their feed choices, not guesswork.
Why Banks Mill Exists
Banks Mill Feeds was founded to solve a problem that still matters today.
In the mid-1990s, inconsistent feed quality was creating unnecessary challenges for horses and barns in the Aiken equestrian community. Charlie Herrick, then owner of Aiken Saddlery & Supply, saw those issues firsthand. Rather than accept variability as normal, he decided to build something better.
A warehouse was converted into a working feed mill, and with the help of leading equine nutritionists, a line of feeds was developed with one priority: consistency horses could rely on.
That principle has guided Banks Mill ever since.
A Feed Mill With a Singular Focus
Banks Mill Feeds is strictly dedicated to the manufacture of horse feed.
We do not produce feeds for other species, and we do not dilute our attention across unrelated product lines.
This singular focus allows us to:
- Control formulation with intention
- Source high-quality ingredients
- Maintain consistent production standards
- Support horses across all life stages and disciplines
From nursing foals to senior horses, from pleasure mounts to top-level competitors, our feeds are designed to meet real nutritional needs without unnecessary complexity.
Informed by Research. Built for Real Barns.
Feed formulations have been informed by current equine nutrition research and developed with input from Performance Horse Nutrition, including Dr. Duren and Dr. Cubitt. This collaboration guides ingredient selection, nutrient balance, and feeding strategies that work in real-world conditions.
We believe good nutrition should be understandable, practical, and adaptable, not confusing or overengineered.
Our role is not just to manufacture feed, but to help horse owners understand why a feed works and when it makes sense to use it.
A Reputation Earned Over Time
Over the years, Banks Mill Feeds has earned the trust of competition horse owners and trainers throughout the Southeast. Today, our feeds can be found in barns across South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.
That growth didn’t come from trends or marketing claims. It came from consistency, long-term results, and word-of-mouth within the horse community.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
In January 2019, Charlie Herrick handed the reins to longtime Aiken resident and horseman Jesse Waters. Living near the mill with his family and hunt horses, Jesse continued the philosophy that built Banks Mill in the first place.
“The feeds are great. There’s no need to change them.”
Today, Banks Mill remains rooted in Aiken, still producing feed locally and still guided by the same belief: horses do best when nutrition is consistent, balanced, and thoughtfully made.
